JOHNNY DOLLAR Mr. Action Packed Johnny's raw interpretations of Jack Rhodes' classics "Rockin' Bones" and "Action Packed" later influenced the now-famous rockabilly star Ronnie Dawson, who copied their arrangements note-for-note. Although Ronnie definitely made the songs his own, Johnny Dollar's original versions stand alone as long-lost classics of the "cat music" genre with influences that include early Elvis Presley, Warren Smith and Gene Vincent. The record also features lead guitarist Howard Reed, who later joined Gene Vincents' Blue Caps as a replacement for Johnny Meets; and incredible teenage piano pounder C.B. Oliver, who gives Jerry Lee a run for his money at the keyboards. In addition to these amazing studio recordings, the set includes two live performances recorded at the legendary Big "D" Jamboree in 1958 in front of a screaming female audience. This disc is the second in the "Legends of the Big "D" Jamboree" series and makes a fine addition to the archives of classic 50s-era rockabilly at its best. Also included are alternate mixes, rare family photos and a biography of the artist. LISTEN - MP3 Clip! Slim Jim Baby |

GENE VINCENT and HIS BLUE CAPS The Lost Dallas Sessions '57-'58 This recently compiled Gene Vincent release is the first collection of "new", 1950s-era Vincent recordings to appear since his death in 1971, and also possibly the last. Careful research and detective work by Dragon Street Records of Dallas has unearthed previously unreleased studio tracks, home demos, acetates and even classic live recordings of Gene and his legendary Blue Caps appearing at the famous Big "D" Jamboree at the Dallas Sportatorium in 1958, which more than doubles the known live Vincent recordings to date!
