MUSIC ROOM RECORDS

KAREN POSTON
Real Bad
"Poston's debut disc, "Real Bad" (The Music Room), is real good. Like Bosworth's, Poston's songwriting -- all 12 songs are originals -- keeps to the country tradition but is forward-reaching at the same time. Her voice, which has enhanced albums by Dale Watson, the Derailers and Ted Roddy, among others, has a crystalline quality that carries through to the end of the sustained notes (check out the lovely singing on the waltz "It Only Hurts for a Little While")" -Buzz McClain, Washington Post
Karen has been attracting the attention of Texas music fans since her arrival in 1994. Her debut, produced by Jim Stringer, features 10 of Karen's original compositions including "Lydia", the heart wrenching single released by Slaid Cleaves on his Rounder release, Broke Down. The guest list reads like a who's who of Americana music: Kelly Willis, Gurf Morlix, Ted Roddy, Roger Wallace and Slaid Cleaves. A powerfully potent stew of American music.

JIM STRINGER and the AUSTIN MUSIC BAND
On the Radio
Borrowing the best of his influences, Stringer forges a the sound he calls "Texas Swang" - a little swing, a little twang, some rockin' and some whinin'. Western swing is the dominant force in the instrumental cuts, Cedar Fever and Tag Along. In featured vocalist Alan Barnette's rendition of Fools Fall In Love, the 50's R&B component is evident. the honky-tonk era is referenced in Long Time Coming. And I Feel Better (Since You're Gone) commences with Waylon and progresses to Jerry Lee, Simply one of the best bands performing in Austin, TX. Virtuoso instrumental performances, tight vocal harmonies and crisp, well-executed arrangements of original and cover songs.
