Ed Burleson writes some very good songs, and he sings them with a hardcore honky-tonk edge that you may not have heard in a long while. His new CD, "The Cold Hard Truth" is probably the strongest honky-tonk album released in the last five years. Whenever you hear radio executives and record label wonks complain that some country music is simply "too country," it's a singer like Ed Burleson they're talking about. He is way far too country for record industry wimps. Burleson is an uncompromising Texas roadhouse singer whose first album was produced by the late Texas Tornado Doug Sahm just a few years ago. Sahm himself was too country for Nashville, with songs like "Cowboy Peyton Place." On Burleson's new CD, a taped Sahm introduces Burleson's live version of "Heart Break Highway" as "too country for his own good." And that song is all that modern honky-tonk should be -- balls to the wall, rockin', spiritual, roadhouse honky-tonk.

SHELLEY LAINE

Shelley Laine sings and writes with the passion inspired by her Texas roots. She possesses the entrepreneurial can-do spirit that is characterized by the state's oil wildcatters, cattle barons, and tech moguls. As a product of this competitive playing field, Shelley loves to meet the challenge. Indeed, she has confronted it as a businesswoman, qualifier in the trials for the Olympic women's soccer team, and in climbing peaks of some of the world's most recognized mountains. Shelley is a steel magnolia with a warm smile and gentle temperament.
Veteran promotions/marketing executive Ed Spacek (The Dixie Chicks, Tanya Tucker, LeAnn Rimes, Willie Nelson) has teamed with producer/engineer Eric Paul (Townes Van Zandt, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Billy Joe Shaver) to produce Shelley Laine's debut album, Skipping Stones.
From the spiritually-flavored "Give It All Up" to the country ballad "Get Back Home" to Shelley's flawless vocal complement to the Mark Knopfler-influenced guitar work on "Blackbird," the CD's tracks, reflections of Shelley's country, gospel, blues and rock-and-roll influences, mesh effortlessly.

MORRISON-WILLIAMS (formerly PERFECT STRANGERS)
self-titled
Shayne Morrison and Clint Williams knew they were a perfect musical match when they began collaborating six years ago after being introduced by a record shop owner in Tyler, Texas.  Back then, they channeled their efforts toward bassist Morrison’s band, Perfect Stranger; Williams eventually joined the band as its lead singer. The pair began writing together sporadically, and submitted a song for the soundtrack to the 2004 film, The Alamo. When producers chose to use an all-instrumental score instead, Morrison and Williams decided it was time to record those tunes on their own.

Like many great Texas songwriters, Darryl's songs reflect the landscapes and the human condition of the places he's lived. In his song A Town Too Tough To Die, he describes growing up in a "town down along the Coastal Bend, where there's miles and miles of milo and cotton, and that warm Matagorda wind." From the perils of picking up women in convenience stores to the “69 Chevelle sitting on blocks” in the front yard of his White Trash Paradise, Darryl paints a lively, humorous and often irreverent picture of the Texas landscape, urban to rural.

TWO TONS OF STEEL
Transparent
The latest album is the perfect mix of original songs written by the band's lead singer Kevin Geil and cover songs that have long been our fan's favorites. While not considered a departure from the traditional Two Ton's sound, the music does reflect the maturity and versatility of the band. Grammy Award winning producer Lloyd Maines, a driving force behind the success of the Dixie Chicks and one heck of a guitar player, brought a lifetime of musical experiences and several "musician friends" into the studio to expand the boundaries of Two Tons. We'd like to extend a special "thanks" to Ron Knuth (fiddle), Riley Osbourn (keyboards), Keith Kimball (banjo), Hank Harrison (mandolin/fiddle), Amy Frances (harmony vocals), Freddy Mendoza & Stan Smith (horns), Adam Odor (studio engineer) and Fred Remmert (final cd master) for all your contributions and just being plain good at what you do. And to Lloyd Maines, you challenged Two Tons to take our music to the next level. We are sure that our fans will agree with the results.

V/A
Texas Unplugged Vol.2
Palo Duro Records released this Texas Unplugged, the second in the label's acoustic music series, created to showcase the diverse talents of today's Texas music-makers. A dozen exclusive, all-acoustic, all-original tracks reflect the simple, direct, passionate elements of the Lone Star State's style of Americana music: masterful musicianship (mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, pedal steel ) and lyrics that tell timeless stores of the land and love and frontier spirit and war, heartache and tears, cars and cowboys, booze, and the blues. One is a tribute to duct tape; each is a true Texas. Palo Duro Records has again captured a slice of pure Texas music by some of the state's finiest musical artists. TRACK LISTING: The Derailers - I'm Still Missing You / The Sidehill Cougers - One Tiny Sin / Dale Watson - As Long As The Bottle's Full / Johnny Bush - Rio Grande Runs Red / Davin James - Dog Days Blues / Morrison-Williams - Duct Tape / Rusty Wier - Texas Love & War / Wild Horses - You And Me And San Antone / Cindy Cashdollar & Carolyn Wonderland - Turtle Bayou Turnaround / Max Stalling - The Rodeo Song / Walk Wilkins - The Path To Your Door / Tow Tons Of Steel - Carseat

DALE WATSON
Whiskey Or God
TRACK LISTING: Sit And Drink And Cry / Whiskey Or God / I Don't Feel Too Lucky Today / No Help Wanted / My Heart Is Yours / It Hurts So Good / Truckin' Queen (I Got My Night Gown On...) / Darlin' Look At Me Now / I Wish I was Crazy Again / I Ain't Been Right, Sine I've Been Hurt / Tequila And Teardrops / 38...21...34 / Outta Luck / HEEAH!!
Dale Watson's still making good music, as the new Whiskey Or God attests. These 14 songs are unvarnished country, without hick-hop, big production or gimmicks. "There's something about a beer,'' Watson observes wistfully in the opening "Sit and Drink and Cry.'' There's only -- what is it? -- two verses in the whole song, which allows plenty of space for the fiddles and pedal steel guitar, instruments that handle the crying just fine, thank you. The rest of Whiskey or God is equally no-frills. Just Watson's weathered baritone capturing the compromises, disappointments and joy that make life worth living.
