TOM MITCHELL When the Moon Is Right Nashville Round-Up! "More than 20 years after it came out, and about ten years into the digital age, it's (Mitchell's self-titled first album) one of the last vinyl LPs that I still make time to listen to now and then.....In 1987, Tom moved his family down to Nashville where's he's lived and written songs since then. I was at home one night when Tom called to introduce me to a buddy with whom he'd done some songwriting. His name was Walter Hyatt and there was a Mitchell-Hyatt song called "In November" on a new album called King Tears that Lyle Lovett had produced for Walter.....On When the Moon Is Right, Tom's surrounded his warm vocals and finger-picked acoustic guitar with some very tasteful musicians including lead guitar and mandolin player Dick Fegy, who I remember seeing years ago in the David Bromberg Band, Jonathan Yudkin, whose fiddle playing has driven a lot of Robert Earl Keen's best recordings, and Jim Hoke, who moves from the bass to half a dozen other instruments. There are also some really nice harmonies courtesy of Buddy Mondlock, Victor Mecyssne, Rick Gordon, Jim Hoke and, especially, Cass Kennedy." LISTEN - MP3 Clip!
